A Call to Service

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'”

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

Monday when we are out of school to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I have challenged my students to find some way during some part of their day to serve others. This could be something as simple as cleaning out their closet and donating things they’ve out grown to a local charity with a clothes closet, or helping mom or dad around the house, raking leaves for a neighbor, anything that would be a service to others. Students remember to leave a comment about your act of service or write it down on paper and bring it to class, I can’t wait to discuss in class on Tuesday all of the creative ways you found to be of service to others.
